Tuesday, August 18, 2009 - On Tuesday night the area got pounded by high winds, fierce lightening and some rain. At 19:23 hrs Station 4-4 was dispatched to Rt 340 and New Holland Rd for a tree blocking the roadway. With additional reports, Chief 4-4 decided to hold the units in station. While Chief 4-4 was still on the scene, LCWC dispatched the barn fire assignment to 4021 Old Phila. Pk (in the area of the 1st call). LCWC advised Chief 4-4 that they were told the barn had been struck by lightening and they received multiple calls of a working fire. Chief 4-4 reported a fully involved barn and requested 2nd alarm. Crews arrived and were immediately faced with challenges, exposures and a lack of water supply. The driveway was in excess of 2,500 ft long and had to use tankers to shuttle water from the fillsites. Firefighters fought for several hours before the blaze was under control.
Meanwhile, Chief 4-1, Engine 3-1-1 and Squad 4-9 handled a partial barn collapse at 4009 Old Phila. Pk and Engine 3-9-1 handled several tree and wires calls.
